EU Commissioner Urges for AI Regulation as Adobe Launches AI-Powered Features and More
In today’s AI roundup, Adobe is set to launch generative AI capabilities and implement new pricing plans, resulting in a monthly subscription cost increase from $2 to $5 starting in November. Additionally, EU Chief Ursula von der Leyen has proposed the formation of a global panel comprising scientists, tech companies, and independent experts to tackle the issues surrounding AI regulation.
1. Adobe introduces AI features and pricing plans
Over the past few months, Adobe has been slowly introducing AI features into its programs. The company on Wednesday opened up access to various generative AI features while also revealing pricing plans, according to a Reuters report. Starting in November, subscription plans for Adobe programs will increase from $2 to $5 per month. In addition to this, customers receive monthly “credits” that can be used for generative AI features.
2. A ‘global’ AI expert panel is needed, EU chief says
In arguments about the rapid development of artificial intelligence and its regulation, EU chief Ursula von der Leyen called for a “global” panel of experts to respond to the challenges posed by this rapidly developing technology. According to an AFP report: “I think we need a similar body for artificial intelligence – about the risks and its benefits for humanity. Yes, with scientists, but also with technology companies and independent experts,” the EU chief said at the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
3. Salesforce CEO calls AI “amazing”
AI-powered apps like ChatGPT and Stable Diffusion, which can generate content with just text-based prompts, have captivated the world in recent months and highlighted the potential of AI. Speaking about this technology, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff called it “amazing” while expressing his company’s commitment to create a trusted AI platform, according to a PTI report. “Technology is also developing faster than ever. We’ve seen time and time again the cloud to mobile to social data explosion that we’re experiencing now… and now this AI burst… nothing like any of us have ever seen, this has caught everyone’s attention. 5. IIT, INRIA researchers develop artificial intelligence algorithms to inspect bridges
Experts from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi and France’s National Research Institute for Digital Science and Technology (INRIA) have announced that they are developing AI-based algorithms that will allow them to predict the structural health of bridges as well as other structures such as cable cars, transmission towers and more. According to a PTI report, “We have used data-driven methods such as machine learning, artificial intelligence and Bayesian statistical inference to assess the condition of the bridge and predict its remaining service life. This result can reduce risks to the infrastructure under in-service and adverse load conditions,” Subhamoy Sen, Assistant Professor, Civil – and School of Environmental Engineering, IIT Mandi.
